There's an element of "attitude" Scarlett Johansson brings with her when entering a room. Within seconds it becomes apparent that this 27-year-old movie star is no pushover.

"I'm so glad I was raised in New York," she says, gesturing towards the hotel window which looks on to Central Park. "The city is a huge part of who I am. Free thinking, volatile and spiritual." It seems her favourite city is one of the only places Johansson is free to roam the streets without fuss. "Oh, people don't bother me at all. New Yorkers aren't like that. They might recognise me, but they'll be like, 'Whatever,"' she says, feigning boredom at the notion a famous actress is in the immediate vicinity.

Johansson is arguably one of Hollywood's best actresses in her age range. A marquee name and at the same time, critically acclaimed, she has appeared in movies such as Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Other Boleyn Girl, and more recently, Iron Man 2. Immensely alluring, fellow Manhattanite Woody Allen, who directed her in Match Point, and Scoop, famously described her beauty as "sexually overwhelming".

It's interesting, then, that director Cameron Crowe, with whom she worked in her latest movie, We Bought A Zoo (based on the best-selling novel), didn't make the most of her natural assets.

The actress/model whose name appears atop many "Sexiest" lists and stars in such high-glamour advertising campaigns as Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, and L'Oreal, would not be the go-to choice to play a head zookeeper.

Worlds away from her usual body-hugging ensembles, such as in the upcoming superhero epic, The Avengers, in which she reprises her Iron Man 2 role as Black Widow, she says of her sensible attire in Zoo, "Cameron calls it my Jane Goodall look," she laughs. "I have to tell you, filming a role as a zookeeper was a lot better than wearing that latex bodysuit."

Eating a chocolate chip cookie, she says, "I've been auditioning for Cameron for about 10 years and every work session that we've ever done has always been some of the most rewarding for me creatively. When I read the script, I didn't really know what I could contribute to the part, but I met with Cameron and I just wanted the opportunity to work with him, and to develop the character with him more than anything," she says.

Based on Benjamin Mee's memoir, We Bought a Zoo: The Amazing True Story of a Broken-Down Zoo and the 200 Animals that changed a Family Forever, is about a journalist (Matt Damon) who re-opens a rundown zoo after his wife's death. Johansson plays the woman who helps him pick up the pieces.

Although Mee is British and lives in the UK, the story was moved to California, and was filmed around LA.

People might be surprised to hear Johansson, widely regarded as a "femme fatale" type, is animal friendly. "Are you kidding? I've always had animals, ever since I was a kid. I had reptiles and cats. I currently have a dog and horses and so I'm used to being around animals a lot. I felt like that zoo was kind of mine. Those are my tigers and those are my zebras and those are my camels," she smiles.

As a celebrity, perhaps she has an inkling of what it's like to be a caged animal and object of fascination?

"Yes, there's certainly a freak show aspect when you're recognised and it's a strange adjustment. I don't know if I'll ever have it worked out and people take for granted their anonymity until they don't have it. But I don't want to sit here and complain. That's just annoying to hear an actor do that," she says.

However, with her recent divorce from actor Ryan Reynolds (they were married from 2008 to 2010), and subsequent fling with Sean Penn, she hasn't had an easy time of late.

"There's an invasion of privacy that can come to a boiling point because information is so readily available," she offers.

Famously private about her personal life, it was surprising that she told the US television programme Access Hollywood that she had "no regrets" about her failed marriage. When gently prodding her about those comments, she retorts, "I already talked about it."

Of Polish/Danish descent, Johansson's father is an architect, and her mother, Bronx-bred Melanie Sloan, a former school teacher. Although Johansson's parents are both atheists, she was brought up celebrating both Christian and Jewish holidays. Her parents separated when she was 13. She and her siblings - a twin brother, an older sister, an older brother and half-brother were raised primarily by their mother.

Back in 1998 when she was cast in Robert Redford's The Horse Whisperer, she was a typically sullen 14-year-old teenager, with a whiff of defensiveness. "I've always been told I'm an old soul," she said back then. "I've been told I'm 14 going on 40, but I think it's a result of growing up in New York City. There's a cultural awareness there that I've been able to take advantage of."

Several years and numerous starring roles later, in movies including Lost In Translation and Girl With A Pearl Earring - both garnered best actress nominations at the Golden Globes - she became the anti-Lindsay Lohan archetype, and steered clear of any kind of hard-partying habits. "That life is not anything I've ever been interested in. I work really hard. I'm pretty low-key and I don't make a big scene everywhere I go."

She was, and continues to come across as a very serious and thoughtful young woman. She's aware of life outside the bubble of movie stardom.

A staunch Democrat, she campaigned for John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election, and was an avid supporter of President Obama. Now, in view of his waning popularity, she says, "He was given a really crappy hand. When he took on everything that he took on, it was never going to be a one-trick solution. And that was part of his platform. He said, 'I'm in it for the long haul."'

There's been talk of late that Hollywood may not campaign for him quite as ardently as in 2008. "Well, I think it would be irresponsible not to, especially when looking at what we're up against. I mean Michele Bachman, are you kidding?" she says, with a direct gaze. "I watched the highlights of the Republican debate. That was a freak-show. We cannot allow any of those candidates to take office. That would be a disaster of epic proportion," she says.

She doesn't seem taken by flights of fancy and appears to have a practical head on her shoulders. "I'm not sure what my hopes are for the future. I haven't figured it out yet. Ask me in 10 years and I might have a better idea."

"We'd be standing there at 6 a.m. every morning staring at three tigers and they’d be staring back at us and we're like, 'This is crazy,'" Scarlett told SheKnows. "It was quite surreal."

Scarlett plays Kelly Foster in the flick, head zookeeper and love interest of Matt Damon who plays a widowed dad. Like her character in the movie, Scarlett says she was quite swept away by Matt's charm.

"He's incredible, generous, warm, sort of mischievous and boyishly charming," Scarlett told us. "He's just everything you could want in a scene partner. Matt is a beast."

In the film, Scarlett's character is absolutely consumed with her animals, preventing much time for a social life. We asked Scarlett if she has the same problem as a top actress.

"There's always time for a social life," said Scarlett. "I love to hang out with my friends and go out and see music and movies. I have to make time for that, otherwise I'd lose my mind."

Scarlett, whose divorce from actor Ryan Reynolds was just finalized this July, noticeably didn’t mention a relationship as a top priority. Still, the actress says she would like to settle down again one day.

"I'd like to have a couple little ones running around," Scarlett told SheKnows. "No time soon, but eventually it would be nice to have a family."

"I always like to put a little bit of make-up on. I'm not the kind of person that just slops around in sweatpants. I like to feel a little more together - you never know who you're going to see out there!" Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

"My absolute must-have is a really rich and vibrant red lipstick. I always keep red lipstick in my bag because I never know when I might show up to an event and be completely underdressed. I feel like red lipstick is the cure-all for everything," she said.

Johansson also revealed, to style.com that she has regular honey facials to keep her skin in good condition.

"I use Manuka honey. You just warm your face so that your pores are open (you can steam your face right after getting out of the shower), and then you just take a spoon and apply the honey directly to your face and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes.

"It really adds an amazing glow and your skin is so soft afterwards. It pulls out the impurities," she added.

If Geoffrey Edelstein, the executive producer of “Dust and Glory” (which Simon West was announced as director of yesterday), has his way then Scarlett Johansson will be headed to Oz for a role in the “Cannonball Run”-style flick.

Speaking to Melbourne’s Confidential, medical entrepreneur Edelstein explained that he was the one who lured “Expendables 2″ director West to the project. In exchange for his financial contribution, Edelstein and wife Brynne have been offered parts in the film.

“I would love to play the editor of the Sydney Morning Herald in it”, Edelstein said. “There are a number of roles for Brynne.. is it something that producers and Simon West need to talk to Brynne about.”

Edelstein said he has his sights on “Avengers” babe Johansson playing a major role in the film.

Eldestein said he’s been going over the script with the writers to give the movie more accuracy in it’s portrayal of real events.

“I thought the story was fantastic but I wanted the script to appeal to the US as well as Australia.”, he said.

Edelstein said they’ve changed some of the storyline to appeal to a wider, worldwide audience.

Scarlett Johansson has broken her silence over the supposed naked pictures of her that leaked online earlier this month, stating that her invasion of privacy was "unjust."

Despite never admitting that the girl in the saucy snaps was actually her, the Lost In Translation actress has spoken to CNN as an advocate for celebrities who fall victim to hackers, invading their privacy.

Addressing the pictures - which apparently showed Scarlett topless - Johansson stated: "Just because you’re in the spotlight, or just because you’re an actor or making films or whatever, doesn’t mean that you’re not entitled to your own personal privacy,”

The 26-year old went on to explain: “I think no matter what the context, if that is besieged in some way, it feels unjust. It feels wrong.”

Scarlett is said to have contacted the FBI over the racy images, with her attorney Marty Singer threatening legal action to any websites that posted the snaps.

TheDirty.com promptly removed the pics of Scarlett, with founder Nik Richie telling E! News that he "felt bad" for Scar-Jo.

Recently, photos of a nude Scarlett Johansson were leaked to various news bloggers, including this blogger, around the World. The initial take from this corner was that Ms. Johansson took the one photo of her perhaps to generate publicity. The photo was certainly noted at PerezHilton.com:

At Zennie62.com, it didn’t receive such major play, taking third role within a blog post primarily about Chamillionaire. I compared the photo matter to the Anthony Weiner scandal, writing:

The problem with the photo, which will not be posted here, is that it looks for all the World like the Anthony Weiner scandal. But the reason why it never got to the point of a counter-accusation of the photo being intentionally posted by Ms. Johansson is that she’s not a politician, and thus does not offer herself as a target for an opposition group or person.

Like Andrew Breitbart of the blog Big Government, who basically teed off on Weiner, and spread the Congressman’s photos all over the place.

But the question must be asked: did Ms. Johansson take and distribute the photo? The photo brought to this blogger’s attention shows her obviously using a cell phone to take a photo of herself. Cell phones have apps that allow quick uploads and texts to persons and to groups. Is it possible she hit the wrong button?

When contacted by Evan N. Spiegel, the lawyer from Lavely Singer, the firm representing Ms. Johansson in this matter, there was no problem with this space removing the one photo or editing the video to have it taken out. But the conversation with Mr. Spiegel did lead this blogger to wonder if the firms presenting Ms. Johansson (and the other stars that were targeted) were themselves investigated by the FBI? It would seem a logical thing to do, if only to cover all bases.

The idea that either Ms. Johansson or someone close to her distributed the nude photos of her, could be dispelled if that was the focus on the FBI’s investigation.

Indeed, given her anger, it’s obvious that Scarlette herself had nothing to do with the distribution of the photo, and the photos as a whole – but that doesn’t clear someone close to her. To determine if the FBI was looking in that direction, a call was placed to FBI Spokesperson Laura Eimiller.

Ms. Eimiller said that the investigation “involves a number of persons who were targeted,” and extends back to 2010. But she said that the FBI was not investigating anyone who represents or is close to Ms. Johansson.

Agencies And PR Firms Like A Good Leak, But…

Since the hacker group Hollwood Leaks claimed it had nothing to do with the Johansson photos, and since it’s hard to determine who placed the photos on Twitter-based distribution channels like YFrog (where such photos are distributed into the public space with a warning), it’s fair to ask if someone who had a beef or perhaps was trying to drum up publicity for Ms. Johansson without her knowledge was up to this.

But since the FBI’s not looking in that direction, we may never know. What is known, according to The Guardian is that Hollywood reps enjoy a good leak:

Of course, the dirty secret of Hollywood studios and the most powerful PR agencies is that they often love a good leak. While stars may rail against the paparazzi, the fact remains that many PRs – and some of their more desperate clients – will happily tip off a photographer. There is a reason why celebrities return to the same restaurants and clubs night after night, and it is not out of a desire for secrecy. Indeed little has changed since the old days. Nothing creates more publicity – especially with a romantic comedy – than the rumour that the leading stars may have had an on-set romance.

Let’s hope this isn’t the case, and that Ms. Johansson doesn’t have to worry about anyone around her, but what’s wrong with the FBI turning its gaze in that direction? The blogging community has been flogged enough on this matter, and since we’re all fans of Ms. Johansson, we’re only happy to help her clear her image.

Massive Attack have collaborated with actor Scarlett Johansson on the soundtrack to a forthcoming Mexican thriller. Dias de Gracia (Days of Grace), directed by Everardo Gout, also features original music by Atticus Ross, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, and Shigeru Umebayashi.

Dias de Gracia is a tale of murder and kidnapping split across three separate storylines, with different composers scoring each narrative thread. Each segment takes place during a different World Cup final, in 2002, 2006 and 2010.Bad Seeds Cave and Ellis scored the 2002 story after Gout heard their work on The Proposition and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. "They created a piece that superbly integrates sounds, noises, urban and animal backgrounds, that could have only been composed by them," he said.

Ross, who won an Oscar in February for his work with Trent Reznor on The Social Network score, composed the soundtrack for the 2006 story. "He worked on the feeling of fear for the most part," Gout said, "something more visceral, more primal."

Umebayashi, a Japanese composer who has worked with Wong Kar-wai, wrote the "quiet and sophisticated" music for the 2010 story.

The film also uses several versions of George Gershwin's jazz classic, Summertime, as performed by Janis Joplin and Nina Simone. The most unusual rendition is the latest one: a revisiting of the standard by Johansson and Bristol's Massive Attack. Johansson, who does not appear in the film, released an album of Tom Waits covers in 2008, and collaborated with Pete Yorn in 2009.

Dias de Gracia premiered this week at the Cannes film festival. It was a "harbinger of [future] cult-film status", according to Variety, who hailed its "intense, bass-heavy score".

Marlene, much like Scarlett, is usually recognized by her blond locks. The scene I believe they are going after is this top one. Okay, so yes, her hair is darker, but not as dramatic and the point of the picture is the lighting. Nope, Walker and Johansson didn't get that right either.

The international food system – which takes food from the fields to our plates – is currently leaving one in seven people going hungry every day and, according to Oxfam, the situation is getting much worse. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Angélique Kidjo and international actor Gael Garcia Bernal are also among the names joining Oxfam calling for governments and big businesses to act now and fix it, to avoid the first ever global food crisis.Grow will be Oxfam’s biggest ever campaign and aims to end world hunger. It will be launched in 45 countries from today, and aims to gather millions of supporters.

“I have recently returned from Kenya with Oxfam, where we visited the region of Turkana,” said Rankin. "The area has been so badly hit by drought that the people there are surviving on as little as a handful of maize a day. They are unable to grow food and their cattle are dying.

“I spoke to the community and asked them what the one thing was that they needed most. They all gave the same answer; they wanted the means to grow their own food and to sustain their own lives. This seems so simple but as of yet it is not possible. This scandal can, and must, be rectified.”

Zoe Ball is also backing the campaign: “In 2007 I visited Malawi with Oxfam. Whilst I was there I was completely blown away by the efforts of the women of the village who worked so hard to produce the food that fed their families. Sex and the City actor Kristin Davis has just returned from Haiti with Oxfam where she visited women’s farming projects.

“In my travels with Oxfam I have met many women all over the world farming to feed their families, working their own land sunrise to sunset but struggling to do so,” she said. “Here in Haiti, I met with a co-op where farmers are growing mangoes. With Oxfam’s help they are beginning to see success and expand their business. Food security is vital so that a country can supply food to its own people – this was especially evident after the earthquake where Haiti had to rely on huge amounts of food aid.”

Rising food prices, the gathering pace of climate change and the worsening shortages of water, land and energy sources means the problem is getting worse. Currently the poorest people in the world are spending up to 80 per cent of their weekly income on food, with people in India forced to spend more than double what we spend in the UK. You wouldn't normally see actress Scarlett Johansson in Klu Klux Klan robes. Except, of course, after pro-life satirists posted their spoof of her recent commercial supporting Planned Parenthood.

The movie star appeared in the commercial "Stand with Planned Parenthood" in response to the House's recent decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood. Johansson urges viewers to sign a petition against a new bill and speak up to members of Congress."For many people, especially those with low incomes, Planned Parenthood is their only source of health care," Johannson said in the commercial. "Let your members of Congress know where you stand."

The House passed their decision, after some heated discussion, with a 240-185 vote.

"The time has come to respect the wishes of the majority of Americans who adamantly oppose using taxpayer dollars for abortions," House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., told Politico.

A group of pro-life supporters reacted to the ad in an unconventional way. They posted the same commercial, only they dressed Johansson in KKK robes and changed the title to "Stand with Klanned Parenthood." The group claims that Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger, supported the racist group and spoke at their rallies.

"Sadly, [Johansson] did not mention the racist, extremist, bigoted roots of [Planned Parenthood]," Kaitlin Martinez said in the video. "We want to stress that this video is political satire, and we do not believe that Scarlett Johansson is a KKK member or supporter, just that she's on the wrong side of history."

The organization "Defund Klanned Parenthood" encourages lawmakers to cut funding to "an extremist organization founded on racist principles," according to a recent news release.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition, added his voice to the group's KKK-based claims.

"It is tragic that Planned Parenthood still venerates Margaret Sanger and has not disassociated themselves from her teachings," said Mahoney. "We will continue to work diligently to see that not one more taxpayer penny is given to this extremist organization."

Sanger's writings on the subject of eugenics outline her support for a Population Congress that would "keep the doors of immigration closed" to the "feeble-minded, idiots, morons, insane, syphilitic, epileptic," and criminal. She also encouraged a "stern and rigid policy of sterilization, and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is already tainted, or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring."

In an effort to continue touting the completely debunked theory that Planned Parenthood was created for racist purposes, the group has recently posted a video that superimposes Klan robes on Scarlett Johansson in a PSA for the chain of womens’ health clinics. Why Johansson?

The film actress was recently featured in a national public service announcement that highlights the services that Planned Parenthood clinics provide. According to a press release sent out by “Klanned Parenthood,” the PSA “did not mention that Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger, a racist who supported the Ku Klux Klan, spoke at their rallies and encouraged the elimination of African-Americans.”

“Klanned Parenthood” was started by Rev. Patrick Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition. The group’s mission has been to convince members of Congress to stop giving federal aid to Planned Parenthood.

In the past, the group has displayed white sheets, a well-known symbol of the KKK, in front House Speaker John Boehnor’s office while legislation that would cut Planned Parenthood’s federal funding was being considered.

The claim that Planned Parenthood was created to “kill black babies” has even been touted by presidential hopeful Herman Cain.

According to PolitiFact, the allegations that Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, supported “black genocide” are unfounded:

The supposed evidence that Sanger supported black genocide is a loose collection of her most objectionable statements, her ties to the disgraced eugenics movement, and her work on what was called the Negro Project. That effort, started in 1939, brought birth control services (but not abortion) to black communities in the South.

These facts don’t come close to supporting Cain’s claim.

Several other celebrities contributed to Planned Parenthood’s “I stand with Planned Parenthood” campaign, as well.

Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson has said she would be interested in playing Courtney Love in a big screen biopic of her late husband Kurt Cobain.

Movie bosses are currently in talks to bring the Nirvana frontman's life story to cinemas with the help of his widow, Love, who will act as an adviser on the project, reports imdb.com.

Love has been talking about the film in recent weeks, announcing she would like to see either Ryan Gosling or James McAvoy to play her late husband and she's named Johansson as her favourite to play herself in the movie. Now Johansson has addressed the rumours, admitting she hasn't been approached about the project but is "intrigued" about the possibility of playing her.

"I know that there is a script. That's as much as I know about it. I'm a big fan of Courtney's, and I think she's very, very talented. But I don't know anything about the project. I think the idea is interesting and intriguing, but I would have to really wrap my head around it," she said.

She admits that she was shocked when the crazed fan rushed through security and tried to invade the stage pretending to be her pal.

"People do weird things. We were in the middle of the second scene of the first act and we're introducing the characters and I saw in the corner of my eye something shiny falling through the audience and I thought it was maybe a light or something," the Daily Express quoted her as saying. "It turns out it was some derelict with a blue guitar running to the stage and turns out he said he was a friend of mine," she said.

Johansson refused to let the fuss affect her performance and continued with the show - and she's proud she reacted like an old theatre professional.
